To all our wonderful supporters,
I am writing to you today for two important reasons.
Firstly, each year at this time we have an end of year financial appeal. The response to this is always encouraging and I hope that you will again consider supporting the vital work we are doing in Africa for orphaned and vulnerable children and youth. All donations are tax deductible.
Second, a couple of weeks ago you would have received an email invitation to join us at 10.30 am this coming Sunday (30th June) at the Events Cinemas at Macarthur Square for a special advanced screening of “Danger Close-The Battle of Long Tan.”
This movie is produced by my two sons, John and Michael, who will be present, as well as some actors from the film, who will introduce the movie and answer questions after the showing. We still have seats available and tickets can be purchased ($30) at www.trybooking.com/508778 (or call 0246580580) The film is receiving excellent reviews and I would be delighted if you could join us.
We are amazed at how effective our current staff in Africa have become.
Our efforts to transform the lives of young people born into desperate circumstances are bearing wonderful fruit.
Joseph Dladla and Vusi Maphalala are two mature Zulu family men who provide wonderful role models and inspirational teaching to lead a team who have proved that they can transform damaged and demoralised young people into enthusiastic, optimistic, productive adults.
One of the successful and effective programs is the Youth Health GardenProject. This program encompasses three projects:
Nutrition & Gardening Workshops which teach household gardens organic farming, so children and their caregivers can have food security. They are also taught cooking and preparation of nutritious food using their garden grown vegetables.
Garden Establishment where households are assisted with seedlings and fencing material for their gardens to be secured.
Household & Youth Club Garden Follow ups where youth garden members are visited monthly and offered necessary support with their gardens.
Mrs. Hlongwane with her grandchildren standing in their beautiful garden
Mrs. Hlongwane appreciates her garden since it feeds her dear family. She says, “The garden also helps my family to be stress-free because even if one is upset, once they work in the garden, they seem to be relieved. Her grandchildren help her so much with the garden.
These practical projects empower the local people to be self-sufficient and live healthier lives. HIV medication works more effectively when partnered with good nutrition.
THANK YOU!! Your donations help families grow sustainable garden
AAF, in partnership with our generous supporters, works to change the lives of children, one at a time and individually, through programs that educate and empower participants to understand their value and improve self-esteem.
We do this by committing 100% of funds raised to create work and education opportunities, to empower and give hope and a belief in their future.
It is with the generous donations from supporters and the tireless work of our volunteers, that we are able to continue to make a difference in the lives of children and young people.
I would like to thank you in advance for your support.
Yours sincerely,
John Schwarz
